A Maline doll depicting the Infant Jesus, hand raised in blessing. A new purchase for the Loppem Castle collection that engages with other depictions of the Infant Jesus
Web magazine no. 3
Loppem Castle was able to expand its collection of medieval statues with a Mechelen doll depicting the Infant Jesus (1500-1525). This coveted export product was brought to India, Japan and China with the Spanish missionaries. It nicely complements the Indo-Portuguese statues of the Infant Jesus also present in the castle's collection. It testifies to the Eastern view of a Western religious example.
