Two paintings from the studio of Adriaen van Overbeke, an Antwerp mannerist active between 1508 and 1529, were once acquired by Charles van Caloen and Savina de Gourcy Serainchamps. They hung in the chapel of the castle, so they were not visible to visitors. During an examination of their condition, it was found that the reverse side was also painted. Together they form four scenes from the passion story of Jesus. The works are particularly interesting because of the signatures visible here and there. This gives us, 500 years later, an insight into the origin of the paintings, their construction and the adjustments made during the painting by the artist. The panels were given a place in the new arrangement of one of the rooms dedicated to medieval art.
